Experimental Drama The Effect

This drama is adapted from The Effect by the British dramatist Lucy Prebble. This performance is the debut of its Chinese version.

The effect is a medical romance. Connie and Allen, two volunteers, participated in an antidepressant test. Dr Lorna, who presided over the test, had been severely depressed many times in her life and did not trust the use of drugs to "treat" depression, while her boss, Dr He Huaien, had an opposite attitude. As the experiment progressed, Connie and Allen fell in love, and they didn't know whether it was true love or a side effect of the drug. At the end of the story, both doctors and volunteers have undergone tremendous changes in their physiology and spirit, which went beyond the purpose of drug testing and produced huge "side effects”.

It is a large-scale drama performance project. I set up a stage digital media art team with other teachers and students and completed the stage digital media effect design and production of the entire drama. Among them, I was responsible for designing some storyboards and production, helping to complete the real-time capture of the performance, and playing a doctor to ensure the safe operation of media interaction during the performance.

In this play, there is no shortage of digital media images captured in real time. We incorporated AirBeam into performance props to capture the performance of the actors, then it is transmitted to MadMapper in real time via the LAN network, and finally the real-time images were projected into the performance area by MadMapper. This technology is used in the images that reflect the effects of surveillance, the inner world of the characters, and the video in the play. We mainly used Maya, After Effects, Madmapper, AirBeam and other tools to produce digital media images of the play.

The Stage Play MOMO

This project is the Beijing version of the stage play MOMO starring Ge You and Wan Qian, which is adapted from MOMO by contemporary German writer Mitchell Ender. This play tells the story of a little girl using her own power to release people's stolen time from the time thieves. MOMO is produced by Theater Zhui in Shanghai and directed by German director Gil Memet. The Beijing version of MOMO was officially performed at the National Grand Theater on August 25, 2019.

Among them, I was responsible for the storyboard design and production of some parts of the play's plot and performed interactive media execution tasks during the formal performance. The creative tools used in this play mainly include C4D, Photoshop, After Effects, WatchOut, etc. (According to the theater confidentiality regulations, the drama MOMO cannot provide live video of the performance)

The Physical Drama Congcong

This work was completed in the Tale of Two Cities Workshop held by Shanghai Theatre Academy and Shih Chien University. I organized three students from Shih Chien University and five students from Shanghai Theater Academy to cooperate and complete the physical drama Congcong in seven days. The play tells the story of the hurried life of four strangers with different personalities and professions in the city. The four people met briefly by chance in a small accident and finally scattered into the vast crowd

The digital media image design of this play is mainly based on clock elements. Everyone's clocks are packed with their busy lives. In the end, a small accident briefly connects their lives. I mainly used Qlab, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere and other tools in the production of this show. Congcong was officially performed on May 1, 2019.

In this project, I served as the director, digital media image designer, sound designer and lighting designer, and tasked with writing scripts and directing repertoires, creating and performing digital media images and sounds, and designing performance lighting.

The Creative Short Film I

This is a non-traditional short film of self-introduction inspired by vehicles that can be seen everywhere. People’s life is always closely related to “traveling”, whether it’s a baby stroller, a child’s bicycle, or the car in the adolescence, the subway, the train and so on. Each kind of vehicle represents a period of time in life. On this basis, I photographed many vehicles and edited these videos into a personal growth diary recorded from the perspective of vehicles.

The short film narration was processed into the form of traffic broadcast, which described the stages I had gone through by broadcasting different traffic information.

All the content of this film was shot by me in Shanghai, and the tools used to make this film are Premiere, Photoshop, etc.
